DENVER WATER UPDATE

Home - 2025 Posted on March 10, 2026

As the winter season progresses, we are seeing record lows for snowpack. As of March 2, 2026, The Colorado River Basin is at 62% of normal and the South Platte Rive Basin is 40% of normal (Denver Water snowpack and water supply update | Denver Water). If this weather pattern continues, it is likely we will see drought response measures from Denver Water in the next couple of months as we enter a Drought Watch or a Stage 1 Drought. Please keep in mind these measures will be in addition to their summer watering rules that take place May 1 to October 1.

The restrictions will mainly apply to irrigation water use and could include a drought “surcharge” in pricing. Denver Water’s Drought and Water Shortage Response is included in Chapter 15 of their Operating Plan: Operating Rules of the Board of Water Commissioners for the City and County of Denver.

To see how you can help reduce water usage, Denver Water provides conservation tips on their website (Conserve | Denver Water). Additionally, Denver Water provides weekly updates on their drought response on their news page “The Tap” (TAP Home | Denver Water).
